Allianz Worldwide Care health insurance for Lebanon and Equatorial Guinea
Allianz Worldwide Care (AWC) has launched new health insurance plans for Lebanon and Equatorial Guinea and a new security plan. This review focuses on the Lebanon plan.
That plan has been developed with local partner Allianz SNA Lebanon (also part of the global Allianz group). The plan is offered to expats, nationals and their families who live in Lebanon. There is a choice of four plans and each offers cashless treatments at a wide range of inpatient and daycare facilities, plus other benefits including medical evacuation, full refund oncology treatment and rehabilitation treatment. The core plan can be supplemented by adding other types of cover including outpatient, dental, maternity and repatriation benefits.
The Equatorial Guinea plans are offered with partner Equatorial Guinea Insurance Company, to offer what AWC says is the most comprehensive group health insurance plans for companies employing both domestic and international workers in the country.
The third new product from AWC is a security and risk management service for multinationals. This has been designed for employees and organisations that operate in high risk or unstable areas.
Comment: International private medical insurance (iPMI) in the past tended to be a one size fits all solution offered to expats, with little geographic variation. That model has changed, and new plans are frequently tailor-made to suit particular geographies.
In AWC’s case, the Equatorial Guinea plans are designed for a small (its population is around 1.2m) central African country that has a high gross national income due to its oil production. The local partner is a leading insurance provider in that country.
Our reviewed product is designed for Lebanon, which is much larger, with a population of around 4.5m people. AWC offers a choice of four plans, but customers can further refine the cover they get and the premium they pay by adding only those benefits they require and can afford. It adds up to an attractive package that combines the global strength of AWC, with the local knowledge and experience provided through the local partner.
Plus points: A specialised plan to meet local geographic needs; Developed with an established local player; Backed by the global strength and presence of AWC; Useful choice of four plan options plus add-ons; Where security is an issue, AWC’s third new plan could be part of a package too.
Not so plus points: Relatively small market for this particular plan; iPMI can be costly if all options are chosen, and premiums on some iPMI plans have risen significantly over the years
