From 1 January 2019, AXA Global Healthcare has launched new international medical insurance plans for both multinational companies with employees on assignment in the region and locally-based businesses. The new proposition meets the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) and Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) regulations.
AXA's existing Prestige and Prestige Plus plans have been developed to meet local needs and to be consistent with AXA's other global healthcare offerings in the region, namely in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The plans combine AXA Cooperative Insurance Company's regional presence with AXA - Global Healthcare's international health insurance capabilities.
AXA says the plans protect international assignees wherever they are in the world, under one globally recognised and trusted brand.
Members can use hospital networks and cashless facilities in Saudi Arabia, complemented by AXA's full global medical network, which gives access to medical treatment when outside the region.
The plans can be customised depending on the size of the scheme, and include comprehensive cancer benefits and cover for kidney dialysis as well as mandatory cover for life threatening congenital conditions, pre-existing conditions and new-born cover for up to 30 days.
Comment: International PMI plans in many territories (and especially in the Middle East) need to offer traditional iPMI benefits but also now need to meet the requirements of local regulators.
In Saudi Arabia, AXA does this through AXA Cooperative Insurance Company. The plans offer a range of benefits and options plus meet Saudi requirements. Employers can also use the AXA Cooperative Insurance Company to meet the insurance needs of their domestic employees.
Plus points: An iPMI plan to meet Saudi Arabia requirements; Choice of two cover levels; The AXA global brand; Plus its regional presence; The Saudi population is growing by 3.5% pa and it has an expat population of 1.2m.
Not so plus points: Geography specific; iPMI can be complex for the non-specialist.
