Integra Global InCare
Underwritten by MGEN, with claims administered by Medical Administrators International (MAI), Integra Global has launched two new international health plans (iPMI). Both are available for individuals and for groups.
The basic plan, InCare Life, includes comprehensive hospitalisation and rehabilitation benefits, plus 24/7 emergency medical assistance, life cover and mental health benefits. The maximum annual and lifetime benefit is $1m.
The higher priced InCare Premier has a greater overall policy limit ($1.25m a year and $2.5m lifetime), plus private room cover and increased accidental death and dismemberment cover.
On both plans the focus is on in and daypatient cover, consequently neither covers outpatient benefits, unless related to an inpatient stay. There is an initial 24 month waiting period for organ transplants.
Both plans include a Life Aware Programme for daily life challenges, 24/7 emergency medical assistance and evacuation, and access to a mobile app and claims portal. Integra Global adds that its plans do not exclude natural disasters or pandemics, such as coronavirus (including Covid-19).
The plans also include emergency medical and security assistance, provided by Northcott Global Solutions (NGS). This covers medical emergencies, evacuations and issues of civil unrest or natural disaster.
Comment: Cost is a major factor in buying iPMI and in being able to afford it going forward, and not having outpatient cover is one way to make it more affordable. The downside is that you may need to have outpatient treatment and that can get expensive.
That said, these plans give you options and include a range of useful other benefits too, adding up to an attractive alternative to some of the more expensive competitor products.
Plus points: A plan that focuses on inpatient cover, to minimise cost; Two versions available; Both include useful additional benefits.
Not so plus points: $1m annual and lifetime limit on the basic plan; Excludes most outpatient cover; Maternity benefit not covered; Life cover on any iPMI plan is arguably a bit gimmicky.
