Simplyhealth Care for Life
Care for Life is an add on service for Simplyhealth’s corporate customers to enable their employees to get help with care. The service is aimed at working carers.
The online service provides information and gives employees access to care, legal and later life finance experts. It also includes explanations, daily living tips, essential legal and financial facts, quick searches to local support services and content tailored to each employee’s care journey.
Simplyhealth points out that every day, some 6,000 people take on a new caring responsibility. That equates to over two million people, and around 1 in 9 adults are carers today.
Comment: Many people have to juggle working with carrying out a caring role – either short or long ter. Simplyhealth has recognised this and Care for Life looks to offer basic necessary help to working carers which, in turn, should help their employers.
Simplyhealth’s research found that 71% of working carers felt lonely or isolated in the workplace because of their caring responsibilities and 42% said it had put a strain on their professional relationships. More than one in five (22%) had had to use annual leave for caring.
The probability is therefore that caring is having knock-on effects both on the individual worker and on those who work with them. This new service could therefore be even more beneficial as an employee benefit than might be thought to be the case.
Plus points: Help for carers; A range of services is available online.
Not so plus points: Some additional cost; Much will depend on the quality of the advice and information and this may be difficult for employers to monitor or judge.
