Unum Help@Hand
Help@hand is Unum’s new app-based service offering employees and their families access to medical support at the touch of a screen, if their employer has a Unum GIP (Group Income Protection Plan).
The app includes four services:
• Remote GP. This offers access to a remote GP within two hours of requesting an appointment. Unlimited face-to-face video consultations with a UK-based GP are available, 24/7.
• Second opinion. Two consultations a year are available. These can be face-to-face or by video, and are provided by a UK-based specialist following a diagnosis from a treating doctor.
• Mental health support. Up to eight consultations a year, including an initial assessment.
• Physiotherapy. Up to eight consultations a year including an initial assessment.
The app is designed to give a unique, simple and straightforward customer experience, enabling employees to get the support they need when and where they need it. The service is available with Unum’s Group Income Protection policies at no additional cost and is offered in partnership with specialist provider Square Health.
Comment: The idea of using an app to provide these services is a good one – provided of course the employee has access to a smartphone (which most will). Employees get 24/7 worldwide access too.
It adds up to valuable additional services, and costs no more to add to a GIP either. GIP is seen by some as a bit old fashioned (nothing wrong with that) but this app help make it look more modern and, more importantly, considerably adds to the value of a GIP to the employee.
Plus points: A simple app to access four health-related services; Provided by Square Health; Available 24/7 anywhere by smartphone; No extra cost.
Not so plus points: Not every employee will have a smartphone or use apps.
