Willis Employee Benefits is part of the Willis Global Human Capital and Benefits Practice, which has over 3,000 employee benefits associates in 120 countries. This plan is offered by Now Health International, whose underwriting partner is AXA. The medical screening is arranged by.

The plan is aimed at organisations with between one and 99 international employees. It provides international private medical insurance (iPMI) cover for them and their dependants through the Now Health International WorldCare plan

Four levels of cover are available – Essential, Advance, Excel and Apex and the plan covers pre-existing conditions and provides worldwide cover, which can include or exclude the USA.  The policy covers emergency and routine medical care; vaccinations and inoculations; chronic conditions and cancer care; wellness cover as standard; options to include maternity, dental and vision care; a variety of cover limits to tailor befits and costs, and a range of excess options.

To this iPMI plan, Willis has added online medical pre-assignment screening through Healix International Medical Screening. Employees (and any dependants) complete an online questionnaire which Healix analyses. If there are no concerning medical conditions, the employer gets a clearance certificate. If there are issues, a medical professional contacts the employee to discuss the condition and to give advice and guidance. If the screening identifies a high risk, the employer gets a report plus guidance on what steps to take to minimise the risk. The cost of the screening is included in the iPMI premium the employer pays.

The combined plan is designed to be managed online and includes online regular management reporting.

Comment: Assigning employees to work abroad can be complex and, if health problems arise, geography can be a costly worry. Willis’s solution is to combine iPMI from a proven provider with online pre-assignment screening and advice. Indeed the internet makes a lot of this plan not only work but optimises how it works.

It adds up to a strong combination of practical value to employers.

Plus points: Combined iPMI with built-in pre-assignment screening; Each element offered by a proven provider; Helps employers meet wider duties of care and avoid foreseeable problems.

Not so plus points: Not all employers will need or want online screening and some may prefer examination based screening.
